Under My Skin

A sensory reflection on the exhibition Sonia Boyce, In the Castle of My Skin, MIMA, Sonia Boué, 2021

In 2021, Boué was commissioned by MIMA to write a visitor guide and create photographic responses to Sonia Boyce’s collaborative exhibition In the Castle of My Skin. For this commission, Boué selected seven artists whose works most spoke to her from a sensory perspective and created a series of nine photographs. The text flowed from Boué’s photographic responses. Readers will understand the context of the exhibition during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, following the killing of George Floyd. They will gain insight into Boué’s neurodivergent sensory world, and photography as a visual essay.
